S01E01 - A Study in Pink (The First Meeting)

Updated: Jun 18, 2019

The first episode of this incredible TV Show, as in all good first episode, the whole “introducing of the characters” happens.

It starts with Doctor John H. Watson (Martin Freeman), recently back from the war, trying to cope with this new lifestyle, and looking for a someone to share a flat. That is when he is introduce to Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) who was also looking for someone to share a flat.

Parallel a series of strange suicides is terrifying the city of London, and the Scotland Yard is having difficulties to find connections, needing the help of the world’s only consulting detective, Sherlock, with his new partner (yeah, I mean partner…) John Watson, the War Doctor.

I believe Moffat knew how to portray the modern Sherlock very well. Sherlock is in the 21th century, sending text to friends and using the help of the internet. He has a website (about ashes…) and also, John maintains a blog, a clever way of including his writing books characteristics.

Both Sherlock and Watson are well defined since the beginning, with Sherlock being the cold heart one, who seems to not have any social skills, yet clever and solving the crimes, and John Watson being the social one, the heart of the group and yet, using his doctor and war skill to help Sherlock.

Another character introduced, that particular surprise me, is Mycroft Holmes. His actions made me very confused and at the beginning I thought he was perhaps Moriarty, but after I understand this brotherly rivalry situation and how would fit his character and the story perfect.
